How Spellexi started
I've spent years learning how to support my differently wired learner in reading, writing, and spelling. I did the research. I tried the programs. I understood the instruction.
And the spelling still wasn't sticking.
That's when I came back to what the science actually says about learning and recall: some kids benefit from lots of practice retrieving words, and immediate feedback when something's wrong. My daughter was writing constantly, but the corrections weren't coming fast enough or consistently enough to make a difference. I couldn't track it all. Nobody could.
“The instruction was there. The missing piece was the feedback loop, and I couldn't close it manually.”
So I built something to close it for me — that's how Spellexi works. (I'm also a software engineer. When something doesn't exist, I tend to build it.)
My daughter helped shape it too. She had strong opinions about what felt encouraging versus stressful. She was right about most of them. She was also very right about the logo.
I built Spellexi for us first. I'm sharing it because I know I'm not the only one who needed it. Read the longer version of why →
If your spelling instruction isn't sticking in real writing, take a look at the Spellexi homeschool spelling app.
I read every message. I'm still building this alongside real families and I'd love to hear from you. Send me a note →
